How to Host the Perfect Outdoor Summer Movie Night

Jul 13th 2023

It’s that time of year again. The time of year when the days are hot and the nights are just the right temperature for a little outdoor movie night. Whether you’re looking for a new tradition for the whole family or a way to bring your friends together over the summer, setting up a cozy space with fun snacks and a good movie is a great way to do it! Here’s how to make it happen…

Step 1: Grab a Projector and a Screen

First, you’ll need to make sure you have a projector. This is the most expensive step, but you can easily find a portable projector online for around $50, and once you’ve got one, you can host as many outdoor movie nights as you want! You’ll also need a projector screen. Finding one that you can set up outdoors is not difficult, but I’ve got an even more accessible option! All you need is two plant hangers, a shower rod, and a white shower curtain or sheet. Stick the plant hangers in the ground a little bit closer than the length of the curtain rod, hang the sheet or curtain on the rod, set the curtain rods in the hooks of the plant hangers, and done!

Step 2: Cozy Up!

Grab your favorite outdoor-friendly pillows and blankets and make a cozy little space for you and your loved ones. No need to buy anything new for this step!

Step 3: Snacks and Drinks (The Best Step)

Grab your very favorite drinks from your local grocery store, or make a homemade pitcher of lemonade. Obviously, an incredible movie night calls for an incredible bowl of popcorn! And not just any old popcorn, this is the night for special popcorn. The cheesiest cheddariest popcorn, and we’ve got just the recipe for you. (adapted from kidsactivities.com)

You’ll need…

  • 1/2 cup unpopped Amish Country Popcorn kernels
  • 7 Tablespoons butter, melted
  • 3/4 Cup Cheddar Cheese powder
  • 1/4 Teaspoon mustard powder
  • 1/2 Teaspoon salt

How to make...

  1. First, pop popcorn using your own chosen method.
  2. Next, slowly melt the butter in a small saucepan.
  3. Add cheddar cheese powder, mustard powder, and salt to the melted butter.
  4. Pour over the popcorn, and mix together.
  5. Serve and enjoy!

Step 4: Decision Time

Now all that’s left is to get everyone together and pick a movie, which could very well be the hardest step!

Now you’re all set with the perfect relaxing summer evening activity! There’s no limit to how many times you can enjoy an outdoor movie night this summer, and it’ll always be a hit! Have fun!
