Even if you’re not headed back to school this fall, we’ve got a collection of fascinating popcorn facts to feed your curiosity. Popcorn has a unique history, and at Amish Country Popcorn, we love to share our knowledge with you! Check out these fun facts — maybe you’ll learn something new!
- Popcorn gets major air. Did you know? Popcorn kernels can pop up to three feet high! That’s quite a vertical!
- Don’t be an Old Maid. The unpopped kernels left in the bottom of your bowl actually have a name. These leftover kernels are referred to as“Old Maids” or“spinsters,” and should only comprise about 2% of your total popcorn kernels, if you’re using a high-quality popcorn, like our Baby White Popcorn(or any ACP brand!)
- Amber waves of(popcorn) grain. Americans eat about 17 billion quarts of popcorn each year. This is in part to the fact that most popcorn is produced in the United States, making it an easily accessible and affordable snack. For perspective, 17 billion quarts of popcorn would fill the Empire State Building 18 times!
- Home is where the popcorn is. Nearly 70% of popcorn sold in America is eaten at home. The other 30% is consumed in movie theaters, stadiums, and other events. You can enjoy the flavors of the ballpark in the comfort of your own home with our Ball Park Popcorn Salt.
- Have a ball! The World’s Largest Popcorn Ball, according to Guinness World Records in 2015, was created in 2013 at the Indiana State Fair. It weighed 6,510 lbs. and measured eight feet in diameter!
